When you open up the hood of your car, you want to be aesthetically proud of what’s hidden beneath. While this new engine cover from MAHLE that uses BASF’s Ultramid B3WG6 GP (a polyamide 6 reinforced with 30 percent glass fibres) for DaimlerChrysler’s V8 motors does well in terms of abstract art with its clean, futuristic looks, it doesn’t tell me anything whatsoever about the engine itself. Technologically advanced yes, but for all I know, this could be the all-new 2010 Batship. I guess I’m one of those people who are more than happy with the raw mechanical beauty of a shinny 4-barrel Holley popping its head out of a V8 engine bay. -Continued: Click “Read More…” below to see BASF’s press release PRESS RELEASE: Almost a piece of art- Mahle’s shapely engine cover made of BASF polyamide with high bursting pressure resistance
A futuristic engine cover with an integrated air filter is the brainchild of developers at MAHLE Filtersysteme in Öhringen, Germany. MAHLE produces this large part with its attractive design for DaimlerChrysler’s V8 engines. The company uses BASF’s Ultramid B3WG6 GP, a polyamide 6 reinforced with 30 percent glass fibres. This material combines the aspects of a particularly high resistance to bursting pressure with very good dimensional stability, while its surface characteristics allow the creation of aesthetically pleasing products.
