Porsche Says Boxster and Cayman Facelift to Feature New Engine and Transmission Tech

We've known for a while now that Porsche is planning to take the wraps off the facelifted Boxster and Cayman mid-engine sports cars at this week's Los Angeles Auto Show. However, Porsche made it official today and even though it did not release any photos, the German automaker disclosed in its Spartan press release that "both cars will come with Porsche's new engine and transmission technology as well as many other significant technical and exterior refinements".

To put it simple, aside from the minor aesthetic revisions (see the spy shots by clicking here), the refreshed 2009 Cayman coupe and Boxster roadster will boast more powerful but also more fuel-efficient direct-injection engines along with Porsche's new double-clutch PDK gearbox that made its debut on the recently facelifted 911s.

Also, for the first time ever at an auto show in the U.S., Porsche will display in Los Angeles the initial car to bear the Porsche name, the historic, 60-year-old mid-engine 356 which has come to be known simply as 'Porsche No.1'. The company's LA Show booth will also feature a Porsche 550 Spyder which is on loan from the special collection of Jerry Seinfeld.
