Now you may wonder why one or in this case, two people would go into all that trouble to build an unwieldy two-piece slot car race track in the… rear end of two Volkswagen Polos. True, it’s stupendously absurd to put so much work into a detailed creation in the back of your car, but on the other hand, that’s what makes it so damn cool; building something like this just for kicks! Ford and VW Launch Soccer Edition Models

For some reason, German automakers find that wrapping a vehicle in soccer-team livery is something quite cool. Ford for example presented a limited edition version of the Ford Focus 1.4 dressed in the colors of the German football club FC Cologne while Volkswagen’s proposition, which is based on the Polo, is dedicated to Werder Bremen. If you ask us, both are propositions tasteless. Plus don’t forget that decals of that sort seriously depreciate the value of a car so if we were you, we’d think twice before we’d buy any of the two soccer team editions. -More pics after the jump

VW Releases Soccer-Themed Polo “S04 Edition”

Celebrating its sponsorship with the German soccer club FC Schalke 04, Volkswagen has launched a limited edition version of its Polo city car dubbed “S04”. A total of 100 Polo “S04 Edition” will be produced and sold in Germany. The special edition Polo is painted in Schalke 04’s characteristic blue/white/grey colors and it features among other things, 16-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 205/45 rubber and “S04 Edition” decals and badges. –More pics after the jump.

Volkswagen Polo GT-Rocket Special Edition

Available initially in Germany, the GT-Rocket is a special edition version of the Volkswagen Polo hatch. Buyers can opt between four different colors –candy white, silver, black and the pictured metallic orange. Apart from the “GT-Rocket” decals, the special edition Polo features new black colored 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped around in 205/50 R17 tires, a roof spoiler, darkened headlamps and a sport suspension. -Continued

Inside, the Polo GT-Rocket gets a set of front passenger sports seats dressed in a two-tone color scheme with red stitching which is also featured on the steering wheel, gearshift knob and the handbrake lever. The Polo GT-Rocket can be combined with VW’s petrol engine range that develop between 80 and 105 Hp or with the company’s TDI diesel units that produce between 80 and 130 Hp. Prices in Germany start from 16,875 euros.

Insider: VW Future Model Arrival Dates

We’ve obtained an internal Volkswagen document addressed to VW dealers in Europe that informs them on the market launch of three important new models: the Scirocco Coupe, the Golf VI and the next generation Polo. The first model to arrive in European dealerships will be the Golf based Scirocco. The production version of the IROC Concept (see here) that made its premier at the 2006 Paris Show, will be available across Europe during the fourth quarter of 2008. If VW decides to import the Scirroco in the U.S., it shouldn’t be expected earlier than mid-2009. -Continued after the jump

According to the internal document, the sixth generation of VW’s compact class Golf will go on sale in Europe during the first quarter of 2009. Originally, VW planned to launch the Golf VI at next year’s Geneva Show in March but VW’s new boss, Martin Winterkorn, postponed the presentation for the Paris Show in September of 2008 as he was not pleased with the vehicle’s appearance. The US spec Golf should make its appearance in early 2010.

Finally, the next-generation Polo supermini based on the same platform as the recently introduced Skoda Fabia, will begin its European career during the second half of 2009. An the U.S.? Well, unless gas prices hike over $4 a gallon, we doubt it that the Polo will make it on the other side of the Atlantic.
